Building the Benchmark for Certification Launches
I am designing a next-generation avionics board for Olin Rocketry, intended to support upcoming certification launches. The goal is to create a platform that is not only robust and reliable in flight but also serves as a comprehensive testbench for validating avionics code, sensor integration, and system behavior under real-world conditions. By rigorously testing this board before certification, we aim to establish a standard benchmark for all future rocket systems.
From Concept to Team Advancement
The board integrates two pyro circuits for precise launch control, a BNO055 IMU for 9-axis motion tracking, a BMP388 pressure sensor for accurate altitude measurement, and a full Battery Management System for safe, efficient power operation. With the schematics finalized, the design now lays the foundation for scaling the team’s avionics capabilities. Once validated, this main board will serve as Olin Rocketry’s primary avionics platform, accelerating development, enabling safer launches, and providing a reliable backbone for all future high-performance systems.
